HOPE NEEDED ONCE MORE---TO BEGIN 2024!
Abounding hope, is known in "Dotsyese" as abunDANCE of hope. May I "dance" through 2024 with all joy and peace in every step as I believe!"

FOCUS OR FALL!
Last Friday, I fell.
This Friday I'm focused on not falling.
Everyone keeps reminding me; be aware of where you are going, hold on to the bannister, watch out so you won't bang your heel on the bedpost, watch where you are walking! You're not focusing!
Does "trying to focus" count?
Obviously not....I just stumbled.
My focus must be throwing me off-kilter. Hmmm.....
Refocus is needed.
If we walk with Him closely today, we will be in the center of His will tomorrow. (Henry Blackaby)
Hmmm....
Maybe tomorrow will be a better day!
As I focus on the Lord, I know He will be there to pick me up "for He upholds me with HIs hand," (Psalm 37:24) regardless of what day it is!

FAREWELL TO A FRIEND.....
Farewell.....for now. Too many tears to type at the moment....but I will return when I can fully honor her!!
I feel as If I have lost a part of myself.
Tuesday Truths. 24 hours since I heard the news. A roller coaster of emotions. A "walking in fog" of sorts. "Sadness and joy all mixed together" as one of her sons recounted.
May I not forget truth and become overwhelmed by my sorrow. Sorrow is not the only reality there is.
God's word in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 reminds us that there is a time and a season for everything. Grief is one of those seasons. This time yesterday I began such a season when I learned of Ann's passing.
"A time to keep silent." (Ecclesiastes 3:7) I knew my inner spring would come from solitude. Time with the Lord and in His word. Time to drink it in.
Joy is hidden in sorrow. (Henri Nouwen, my Bible marginalia) I need to remember truth and not be overwhelmed by my own sorrow. May my sadness be fertile ground for truth of God's ever presence. His strength. His consolation.
May I not lose sight of the joy of the Lord because I have lost her. God Himself used Ann so many times in my own life to see His goodness. (Psalm 27:13) Today may the LORD loose my sackcloth and clothe me with gladness. Turn my mourning into dancing once again. (Psalm 30:11, paraphrased)
There is a time to dance. (Ecclesiastes 3:4) This is such a time.
Lord, I ask You to be my choreographer once again as this unique dance of loss has me stumbling. (Psalm 37:24) I know you hold me because you now hold Ann. She has been a friend who has loved me well at all times. So....I must sing your praise (even if off key) and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever (Psalm 30:12).........for my deep and abiding friendship with Ann.
Annabelle, Mamaw, Mommabelle, Mrs. Martin.
Ann----my mentor, my Proffitt's shopping guide for funeral attire, my grandson's school supporter, my water aerobics pal, my scrabble hero, my New Year's Eve game winner, my favorite cook, my tea brewer, my sidekick, my travel chum and my dear, dear dog-loving friend for 20+ years!
Thx Ethel, an angel of a caregiver, for this pic!
Oct. 2, I was with Ann as she had her lunch. (It would be the last "real" conversation I had with her as COVID complications sent her to the hospital in the wee hours the next morning.)
As she ate her dessert, her fave part of any meal, I told her it was "her" Dotsy behind the mask and when I pulled it back for her peek, she said, "No it's not! It's an angel." I'll take that.
We all need to be angels for each other. She certainly has been there for me.
A fond farewell to Ann today. Farewell filled with sweet memories knowing she is with the LORD!

LOVE STEPS
Love steps are intimate......
baby steps
giant steps
single step
step back
step up
stumbling steps, limping steps
every step of the way.....first steps to last steps. (Job 23:11)
Love steps similar to having one foot on earth and one in heaven---can include slow steps to a toe tapping foot step that is in rhythm with the "new dance" the Lord is teaching you to follow his every lead. Follow His stepping stones on life's path so that you will not fall headlong. (Psalm 37:24)
Love-light tends to shine on the path when my steps are choosing to follow Him. Those are the love-steps I desire for every child on my "Kids for the Kingdom" prayer list to follow. (Psalm 16:11)

KEEP ON DANCING!
Do you feel sometimes as if you're stumbling backwards during this pandemic?
My "feelings" are trying to keep me overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, IRRITABLE! (note all CAPS)
As I pulled out a napkin for my morning cuppa, from my "clean out/use up Cover-19 pare down stuff stack", I was astounded.
Like a tap on my shoulder, the napkin said it all. I was soon tapping my toes and humming, "Lord of the Dance". "Dance, then, wherever you maybe, ..........I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,....I'll lead you all in the Dance, said he" (S. Carter's English Hymn with melody from Shaker hymn, "Simple Gifts")
Don't give up when you stumble. Remember who your dance partner is---look up, not at your feet, and let Him lead with a new unique step, turn or dip.
Don't quit! Just keep on dancing with your eyes on the LORD. It's when we look down at our feet, (those overwhelming, anxious, frustrating, irritating, circumstances) that we stumble. Turn up the music so you can hear from Him not from the discouraging words in your head. Though he (she) may stumble, he will not fall (be hurled headlong), for the LORD upholds him with his hand. (Psalm 37:24)
Remember who has your hand in His when you're dancing, allowing Him to guide you with His righteous right hand and...............KEEP ON DANCING!

SOUL FOOD 2020
My March 20, 2020 entry, Attack-a Stack, explained the "creative" way I was extending my quiet times. Today the devotional book at the top of the stack was so timely! Streams in the Desert (L.B. Cowman)
It could have been written TODAY---for such a time as this! A Covid 19 Pandemic times. Copyright laws prevent me from printing it all here.*
The entry began with scripture, as always. Today's was from 2 Kings 4:4.
Go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons.
My musings---
A widow with her two sons were to be alone with God. God only. Removed from their circumstances. Totally isolated. A time to get in touch with God alone---to depend on Him. God, the Source of miracles.
Analogy given was that of Christians on the treadmill of life, ordinary, predictable. A time was needed to enter a secret chamber of isolation in prayer and faith. A time for God to show us something new. Something Divine. A new pattern for life with Him.
Like the widow, "detached from outward things and attached inwardly to the Lord alone in order to see His wonders." --from Soul Food.
In my life, God isolated me during my cancer journey.(2009) God clearly spoke to me from the MAC diagnosis to a year of surgeries and treatments. I was fed by others, with a syringe through a pencil sized hole in my mouth. Hands of others liquified my food for intake.
But God.....He, Himself, fed me daily. Soul food straight from His Word.
My pattern was a D.A.N.C.E.. It's when God taught me "our" DANCE--a dance He had just for me. He became my dance partner and led me in every step. A unique dance. He was there for evey twist and turn. I kept focus---always looking up into His face and not down at my feet. (circumstances) If I did stumble, He was always there to keep me from falling headlong.(Psalm 37:24, NIV)
It became the first big step of fruit bearing for me....as I stepped out & shared my story.
I will be forever grateful for soul food from His hand and others who became HIs hands and feet on my behalf. (Psalm 27:13, NKJV)

CHOOSE: THE LORD OF THE DANCE AS YOUR PARTNER
CHOOSE: THE LORD OF THE DANCE AS YOUR PARTNER

Thanks to my friend, JH who sent me this picture.
Dance, then, wherever you may be,
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He.
Some verse of scripture "sing out " to me of dance positions with the Lord of the dance.
If they stumble, they will not fall, because the Lord holds their hand. (NCV)
That's why I choose the "Lord of the Dance" to lead me.
I am the Lord of the Dance, said he,
And I'll lead you all, wherever you may be,
And I'll lead you all in the Dance, said He.
Some verse of scripture "sing out " to me of dance positions with the Lord of the dance.
Nevertheless I am continually with You; You have taken hold of my right hand. (Psalm 73:23)Even when I stumble in my life dance with Him, His words from Psalm 37:24 comfort me.
If they stumble, they will not fall, because the Lord holds their hand. (NCV)
For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Psalm 41:13)Who wouldn't want to dance through life with the One who holds you close and calms your fears.
That's why I choose the "Lord of the Dance" to lead me.

CHOOSE: MY OWN LANGUAGE
Music, as termed by many is the universal language. For me, "dance" is a language of its own!
It's my language! Analogous for my own life's journey language. My dance with the "Lord of the Dance."
My beautiful Ukrainian friends use "language of dance" in their worship movement. Sweet Lynn H. uses "language of dance" in her art.
I use it in my faith based writing as I reflect on the One who leads me as I put my (the follower) right hand in His. Looking up. Focusing on Him---not my feet. (circumstances)
Can your visualize the "closed" position of dance? The leader puts His right hand on the follower's back and uses it to guide her so that she does not stumble and fall head-long. (That is so biblical-- Psalm 37:24)
Whatever is one's chosen language, may it clearly express praise in His name. (2 Chronicles 5:13)

CHOOSE: accorDANCE
More often than not, I'm a rule follower. Years ago in a friendly game, participants described each other with adjectives that began with the same letter as one's name. Example--pretty Patricia.
If Siri had been playing, she would have named me "ditsy" Dotsy. I would have gladly settled for that or delightful or dancing....but the consensus for me was diligent.
Diligent. How boring!
Yet, as aging has set in, it is a trait that I tend to admire in others. Too many seem to see themselves beyond the rules---as if "rules" are for others, not them. They are a member of the "terminally unique." Think those who litter, park in handicap spaces, keep their phones on in theaters, or text while driving.
They don't "dance" according to the rules. Rules are for others. They are the exception.
Maybe young people need diligent rule following adults in their lives as good examples.
This young lady chose to "model" the "quiet" rule at the St. Jude golf-tournament recently---not just in accordance with this respectful rule but by encouraging others to do the same.
I, the diligent one, choose accorDANCE---to waltz through life in accordance with the rules set out in God's word, even though sometimes I do "trip" up.
The good news is that when I stumble in my accorDANCE, God is there. (Psalm 37:24)

CHOOSE: TO DANCE ONCE MORE
Many times, especially those of hardship, loss or health struggles, one wants to choose anything but dancing.
Choosing to dance is a metaphor for choosing to live life to the fullest in spite of the "falls" on life's dance floor .
For Christians it requires the right dance partner. Jesus Christ.
Choosing to dance is a metaphor for choosing to live life to the fullest in spite of the "falls" on life's dance floor .

When we stumble our Partner is there to catch us. (His hand hold keeps us from going headlong)
When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand. (Psalm 37:24)
Trust ensues and grows with every recovered struggle/slip.
Step adjustments are made and once again we can see what seemed like utter trial/pain, or devastation---take your pick) God can use for good.
Thanks be...."to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to make you stand in the glory, blameless with great joy." (Jude 1:24)
Choose to dance looking up into the face of the Ultimate Dance Partner who leads you in His chosen dance of love for you.

A New Dance
Steps are still being worked out for my new "spiritual" dance. It's difficult because steps "seem" hard---probably because of my negative attitude.
I learned in Psychology 101 that that "feelings follow actions." So....I needed to take action---to let go of my negativity or Dotsy Downer dronings, as daughter Molly dubs them.
Choosing to focus on "Pleasing God" has helped and the pleasure was increased as "Hubby" provided the new journal for recording these thoughts. A daily reminder to "dance in the rain."
Rain---those hard places of "what if "fear, slick with regrets or drowning in "lack of." We all lack something.
Those challenging places. Storms that need a right response. A new dance step.
Tripping lightly. Not tripping as to fall headlong. (Psalm 37:24)

In my GAC zumba classes, I have discovered that It is so much easier to "follow" the dance when the leader/instructor is talking me through the steps while modeling them as well.
Physically, I follow the instructions of my teacher---his verbal clues tell me exactly what to do and my feet seems to "finally" respond to the dance floor below them---- especially when my shoes are covered by my peds---those little nylon stockinettes that just barely cover the foot of my shoe and keep my tennis shoes from grabbing.
Spiritually, I need to move through life on the dance floor that is given---maybe I can "glide" along trusting the best dance partner to guide me once again, regardless of the bumps or splinters on the floor. A dance revival.....with Him in the lead.
To move and celebrate life. To let my spirit start to soar once again. To dance as I've never danced before.

"agili-TEA"
When you walk, your steps will not be impeded; And if you run, you will not stumble. (Proverbs 4:12, NASB)
Balance is so important as one's chronological age increases. I know because I have to continually "practice" the one leg stance exercises in my "Silver Sneakers" class. When I have both feet on the floor in my Zumba Gold class there's not nearly as much stumbling. Gold......a class for mature adults or old coots as Larry's dad used to say)
Spiritually, when we walk (or dance, as I like to say) with God's leading and trust in His wisdom stumbling seems to occur less often. And.....when I do stumble, I don't hurl headlong His hand is always there to support and "catch" me. (Psalm 37:24, NASB) *
When we're traveling life's path with Him, God might not remove the rocks and stones that hamper us but He enables us to press on without falling flat or being utterly cast down.

A cuppa agili-TEA---good for all ages.
*Update (8/12/14)---Last night hubby read Psalm 94 to me as a part of Allen Bible Church's 2014 Bible reading plan. If I should say, "My foot has slipped," Your lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up. (Psalm 94:18)
9/16/09 blog entry reminded me that "God’s Word doesn’t say there won’t be mis-steps throughout our lives, only that He’ll be there to keep us from fallin’ headlong."
My cuppa agili-TEA is served from His hand.

"Directionali-TEA"
The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when He delights in his way; (Psalm 37:23, ESV)
Have you ever struggled with finding direction for your life? Which way to go? Where to turn for help? Even when one knows the "direction to heaven," (John 3:16) she can still need direction for the daily grind. God's Word certainly offers needed direction.
So.....why is it so hard to "let go and let God?" Excessive over-planning can wear one out. So....why continue in that "insanity?"
I've decided to stop asking those questions in my mind and start reading:
Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.
Isaiah 30:21, And your ears will hear a word behind you, "This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right or to the left.
The Lord delights in the one who chooses to follow Him, as Psalm 37:23 reminds us. I like the comfort offered by that verse but I also hang my "faith hat" on the verse that follows, especially when I make poor choices or go off on my own path.
When he falls, he will not be hurled headlong, Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand. (Psalm 37:24, NASB)
Regardless.....when one's life rests in the hands of the Lord, all directions lead to Him!
Directionali-TEA---to be sipped in that blessed assurance.

Simple Trust
5/1/13 Sometimes it just takes a "hand" to provide all the trust that is needed. As Lucy left church Sunday with Pop-Pop, I was reminded of the Psalm 37:24 verse....

D is for…………
12/2/09…………….DANCING PARTNER! You probably already knew that, but I didn’t. It was revealed to me in the middle of the night. Of course, it has to be that characteristic. It’s the way I‘ve known Him best this year.
The term doesn’t exactly resonate with spirituality but it clearly expresses the year I’ve had in His presence. It’s been a way to celebrate life when it seemed so tenuous. The beauty of dancing with Him is that’s it’s a forever dance and it just gets better---I hope to keep dancing.......as the "gift" sign above our fireplace reminds me.
Last week Larry and I watched a “Dancing with the Stars” recap. What a difference from those first weeks. As the dancers began to know and trust their partners they seem to meld. It took lots of daily contact and hard work. At the end, the top 4 partners (even those who stumbled miserably at first) showed that all that time together, even enduring pain during the practices, paid off---it was as if they were one. Is that the way it is for you? Are you one with Him? Is your time on earth a dance rehearsal for that eternal dance with Him?
It’s not too late to learn. Just turn toward Him. Step out there and take His extended hand. He’ll hold you in His embrace and be with you through those spins and dips and turns that life sends your way. You might get dizzy, or stumble a little but He won’t let you "fall headlong"---and that’s scriptural. (Psalm 37:24)
Each person’s dance is different. Looks different. Feels different. Tempo is different. Steps vary from easy to complex. As in life, we are all at varying levels of knowing Him. But all of our dances have one thing in common---a celebration of life in Him! Let Him whisper in your ear as you dance.
This weekend I hope to be dancing on the mountaintops with Him. How about you? Are you dancing with the Lord?
It’s never too late to begin your dance with God.
You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;…….and girded me with gladness. (Psalm 30:11)
........I hope you Dance!!!
