A great reminder to refocus on Him anytime I open my computer!

MINDSET MATTERS #3!

"Mindset matters" for the 3rd day.....and beyond!

Awakening with a "muddled mind" this morning, I opened God's Word!

I praised! Think rejoiced in the Lord (Philippians 4:4)

I prayed & asked. Think supplication for my Wednesday Women. (in red ink) (Philippians 4:6)

I went back to God's Word. Eventually, I took a walk with my book of Philippians in hand. Picking up where I left off. At verse 7, words were "mindset" specific. "Peace to guard your heart and mind" in Christ!

Philippians 4:8 came immediately to mind---a familiar "mindset" (since March 1965, KJV) to think on these things.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Perfect Mindset Words became BOLD in my mind!

"Wrap-up words" from Philippians 4:9 inspired action---

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

This morning, as Henry Blackaby in Experiencing God reminded me (along w/ other prayer warriors of mine), ...."If you always choose the easy way asking for the peaceful valleys, you will never see God's power displayed to enable you to take a mountain," (Experiencing God, 8/3) I am seeing His "severe mercy" again these days & I'm asking "my" God to let His good Spirit lead me on level ground. (Psalm 143:10)

FALL FAVES!

Some things speak autumn at our house.

The sight of Psalm 143:8 on my computer screen. 

Sight of ginkgos on Grandview. (Genesis 2:9)

Smell of chili cooking.

Taste of pumpkin roll and Werther's Original Harvest Caramels.

Sound of rattling from the glass pumpkin jar lid....an alert that someone is helping self to some candy corn.

It's how I knew my oldest grandson had come through town for a visit. 

I almost heard him before I even saw him.

How grateful I am the Lord God created seasons for us to savor with all our senses.

WITH GOD

With---a four letter preposition "with" a BIG life in scripture. A "function" word. Accompanied by. Possessing as a feature of accompaniment. On the side of. 

Together comes to my mind.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10, emphasis mine)

With-ness is key---if that's even a word. Lately, I have been "with God" early in my day praying from Psalm 143:8. Setting my agenda before Him asking his direction in the way I should go. You see, I want to go with Him. I want Him with me as I face the "tyranny" of the urgent along with fears that haunt me and minutiae that distracts me.

I need to quit "straining at a gnat." (Matthew 23:24) My focus is on the small things, which blind me from seeing the big picture of God's faithfulness. His word reminds me, "it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." (Deuteronomy 31:6, emphasis mine)

I need Emmanuel---"God with us", with me all the time.

MEDITATION CONTINUES....

Last Monday's passage meditation had me on a single verse---Psalm 143:8, specifically the last 2 lines of the verse.
This time the selection prompted prayers beyond family to prayers for friends---so many friends. Sisters in Christ who seem to struggle as I do when it comes to being confident in God's daily plan for them. Such wonderings require daily focus on scripture.
I prayed the verse especially for sweet KDS friend, Sandra, who was hospitalized for observation after a scary blood pressure event. Taking a few treats to Methodist Germantown to celebrate her recovery, I saw she had her Bible opened to that verse.  I had told her earlier I was praying Psalm 143:8 for her.

After  she was dismissed from the hospital, she shared this picture from her morning quiet time. 

Her morning cuppa---tea and truth. Her special Psalm143:8 teacup served as bookmark for that same verse in her Charles Stanley study Bible!  

Then........Sunday's "responsive reading" at church that week was from Psalm 143:8----of course it was.

God is gracious to keep me meditating on a verse until "I get it"!

The meditation continues so I'm excited to see all that He has for me within these 31 words!

MINDFUL MEDITATION: A GREAT REDUNDANCY

Robert Morgan's, All to Jesus, day 203 was last Monday's  (July 22) devotional reading. It was right on the money for this gal whose life is too often filled with fear, flurry and fretting. His reminder was from a quote by St. Francis de Sales, "Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in in a calm spirit." Mull over God's word. No flurry.

For me, cultivating a quiet mind requires much mulling over scripture. Perfect assignment for Meditation Monday. As I will be teaching "Meditative Prayer" at Town Village tomorrow, the reminder was very timely for that lesson as well.

Trusting Him On This Subject/Scripture

Today, God used another Morgan book, Redeeming the Lost Art of Biblical Meditation, to continue my "mulling over mindful matters"---as I call to mind, holy thoughts of what God has for me today and allow Him to show me the way to go. (Psalm 143:8)

This month I have had this picture posted near my kitchen table---a great morning reminder. A verse for meditation. A verse to pray for my adult kids, their spouses and all "my" "grands. Plus, God has brought many others to mind so I've prayed for them as well. Psalm 143:8 is also on typed card by my prayer chair and on a post-it note upstairs in our computer room. 

Mindful meditation on this one verse has me focusing again today on, "show me the way I should go." Not "my" way.....but "Thy" way, O Lord.

Trusting God instead of my "to-do" list has calmed my spirit and allowed me to see His priorities and today that means I "stay put" at 1152. Obviously more mindful mulling is still needed.

10/28/13 Meditating on scripture can bring a depth of understanding. Sometimes just reading a different translation of the same verse or passage can shed new light.

This weeks meditation came from my Atlanta friend, Katherine, who said she was praying this verse, Psalm 143:8, for me. What a blessing. What a verse. What a wealth of legitimate translations. /what a blessing to pass on as I have prayed this for others who are facing decisions and desiring God's good and perfect will in their choices.

"Tea with Thee"

3/2/10 A cup of hot tea (cuppa)   is the ideal accompaniment to my morning routine. Sally B. asked me what would be a good tea? WOW, that’s a hard question----there are so many good choices but each tea lover would probably give a different answer. Black loose tea is usually my preference---a good hearty assam with real sugar and a drop of milk. No cream for me, it masks the flavor. Most teas are a good blend. Just don’t oversteep them. Add more tea, not longer steeping time, otherwise your “cuppa” can be “bittah.” For my recent cold winter mornings I have enjoyed a good Irish Breakfast Tea----Bewley’s, Barry’s or Lyon’s---all good, robust, black tea blends. I probably lean toward Bewley’s because of the memory it evokes---Grafton Street, 1993. Porridge for me---full Irish b’fast for Larry---both served with a pot of their signature tea. Not sure why, but I remember the sign above the entry of this famous Dublin establishment. It said Bewley’s Oriental Café, though there was nothing oriental about it---just a cafeteria-like line, small tables and a bustling atmosphere. Knowing my affinity for their tea, Josh brought me some back from his last trip there. Yum-m-m-m!

There’s just something about starting my day with my fingers wrapped around my warm teacup---most mugs are too big---a devotional book on the chair arm and my Bible open on my lap (the original laptop) that opens my eyes to infinite possibilities. “Tea with Thee.” The best “routine” morning times are like my tea---steeped just right, not rushed. An ordinary cup of tea, my daily Jesus Calling reading, simple scripture verses at my fingertips----ordinary beginnings can make a day extraordinary.

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. (Psalm 143:8)
