CHOOSE: RIGHT IDENTITY

Ice breaker games are a standard at church mixers.
In years past, we would either have to share a secret that few knew about us or choose 3 words to describe us. Often, to make the game more complex, those words had to be alliterative with our name.
Dotsy (according to the group) = diligent, dutiful and determined. Ugh, I would have much preferred delightful, dainty or dazzling. Oh well.

Siri even defines me as Ditsy.

However those descriptors have changed for me through the years.
During revival times, "In Christ Alone" would have been the 3 words I most desired. (1 Corinthians 6:17)

During my cancer journey my blog readers saw me as a dancing, tea drinking, reader.

Hm-m-m.....recently, at novel. bookstore, I came across the 3 words that best described me this last week through my "fatigue" schedule.
Snack. Nap. Read. Oh well again. (My sweet friend, Susan in LA, always said my epitaph would read, "She's just down for a quick nap.")
The good news is that I can brew my strong morning cuppa identity-TEA, with extra faith protein added to carry me on and sweetened with God's grace. (Lamentations 3:23)

His child is the right identity choice for me through all my seasons. (1 John 3:1)

Identi-TEA : a cuppa choice

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in His name, he gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12, NIV)

Identity is important in our nation. Safety continues to be a big concern. Identification is crucial in both air space and cyberspace. Though terrorists and hackers seem to understand how to "skirt" that issue, those on the "right side of the law" appreciate diligence.

Privacy is also a concern. We might not want people to know all about us.
Even without an official ID or driver's license, there are many indicators, along with our "outward" actions, that tell others about us.

The delivery man wearing brown, we assume, works for UPS.
Uniforms with stripes or neon orange jumpsuits on roadsides have us thinking unsavory thoughts about the "wearers", even though we've probably never met any of those folks picking up the trash.
At the gym, colored balls signify aging and even the color of one's hand weights SHOUTS to all in sight of one's fitness level, or lack there of.
On an airplane, I find comfort when my seat is across from one wearing a cleric color.
Identity is more than our name or initials. It's even more than our "job" uniforms or badges. It's even more than our likes and dislikes, by which others often define us.....for me, that would be berries on bushes, books, pockets in jammies, tea and the Lord. But, does having Bibles sitting around and a cross around one's neck tell the true identity.

One's ID is not just worn or collected, it's lived out! Anyone can slip a cross around their neck and yet their actions belie this symbol.

The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7)
True identity is found in the One who gave us the right to be called children of God. Aren't we glad He knows our identity!
Actually, He's the one Who served us our very own cuppa identi-TEA.

"identi-TEA": a Re-brew

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; (Jeremiah 1:5a, NIV)
Those words were spoken by the Lord to the prophet Jeremiah. They are true for us today, as well.  God, as creator, even knows and names the stars. (Isaiah 40:26.) But as our creator, God factors love into His relationship with man.  We are known and personally loved by our Good Shepherd; (John 10:14) He calls us friend. (John 15:15) He calls us by name. (John 10:13) He has set us apart for the plans He has for us, as Jeremiah continued in the verse.
Therefore Our true identity is in Him.

This morning's cuppa of identi-TEA was my third one. In October of 2010, I began with the many ID badges I had worn in my life time and concluded with, "I plan to savor my identi--TEA with a “cuppa”----Lyons Gold Blend---as I begin my day with Him, because that’s the identity that counts for eternity. In July 2011, as I was entering a new season in life, I had begun to reflect on and rethink my identity---wondering how others might "see" me.

Now-a-days,  I ask, "Do my actions allow others to "see" my true identity? Child of God.

Once again, on this snowy February morning in 2014, I'm spending "Tea With Thee" time with my Lord sipping a cuppa true identi-TEA. A cuppa poured into my heart by the One whose sacrifice gave me that identitiy. My ID is really His ID imparted.
Remember---the Lord calls you by name, even your nickname...
 or your grandparent one!
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! (1 John 3:1)
