MOMENT NOTES!

Yesterday's Monday musings went with me for hours as two difficult doctor's appointments seemed urgent. Joy seemed to keep slipping out of my hand.
THOTS--Trusting Him On This Subject---seem more like ramblings.
Read at your own risk of not understanding.

One of the great challenges of life is just the simple task of living in the moment, this very moment. Living a “present tense life".
Why is this so hard for me. I can teach it.......but when it comes to living it out, I really struggle!

To be enthralled with life moments like Goldie(7) and Jack (8)!
Ah-h-h-h...to experience that once again.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.(Matthew 6:33, KJV)

Matthew 6:30-33 The Message (MSG)

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. (Emphasis mine)

There are two great enemies of a walk with God that try to keep us from walking with God in the “now.” One is “the fantasy of what could have been,” and the other is “the fear of what might be.” Let me address each one of these for a moment. One of the great challenges of life is just the simple task of living in this moment, living a “present tense life.” There are two great enemies of a walk with God that try to keep us from walking with God in the “now.” One is “the fantasy of what could have been,” and the other is “the fear of what might be.” Let me address each one of these for a moment.

The fantasy of what could have been- We all live our lives looking back to the past or ahead to the future. It’s rare that we live in the present tense. One of our enemies is the “fantasy of what could have been.” We will often look with a longing for a change because of our present adversities- “If only I had married the other person,” or “If only I had finished college,” or “If only I hadn’t made that horrible mistake” then life would be….. And our thoughts race to alternate present reality because of our dreams of “if only.” Dreaming about what could have been can be a wonderful diversion, but it’s sin plain and simple. The truth is that there is no “if only I had.” There is only what is. Dreaming about an alternate life that would turn out different is a fantasy that brings nothing good to our present situation. It only makes the “now” harder because our fantasy solutions would have completely eliminated our real dilemmas and the need to trust the Lord with our real problems today. So, here is the first sin we often fall into. When you are tempted to visit the land of “if only I had…” make the decision not to go. It’s a trip that only brings disappointment to what is your life right now.
If only and what if ---let both go and enjoy the pleasant present tense
2. The fear of what might be- The other problem I see many struggle with is “the fear of what might be.” They are experts at worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet. There is no way any of us can see the future, so for us to worry about it before it ever gets here is a clear lack of faith in God to care for our tomorrows. Jesus clearly said, “don’t worry about tomorrow.” He knew we were tempted to do this, and warned us against it. Fear of what might be often keeps us from walking with God and trusting him RIGHT NOW.
Don't  miss the joy of a walk with God in the present tense.

Walk is present tense

We each have to live a present tense life intentionally. The distractions of fantasy about the past and fear about the future will easily get our attention away from a walk with the living God right now. I mentioned the word “walk” intentionally. It’s the word that the bible uses to talk about our lives of faith. The bible calls it a walk because there are some wonderful present tense elements to a walk that will help us stay focused on the now. Here they are quickly for your consideration- a walk demands a destination, but it can only be done one step at a time, one foot on the path toward the goal, one decision at a time to reach the goal. A walk demands a present tense life. That word, walk, often helps me get back to “now.”

Embrace all moments as gifts from God!

0f course, true Joy can also be found in struggles when Jesus goes with you through it.

"Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." (Romans 5:3-5)

HOPE -FILLED LIFE!

Hope---as an acronym or acrostic?? Does the linguistics matter?
Regardless of the etymology for hope; hope involves wait.
Think a positive expectancy even in difficult situations. Optimistic!
Note "holding" as verb (Present Participle/Gerund) indicates an on-going action. That's what hope is......on-going!
As I often say.......Enough said!

Fill in the blanks of all the LORD is to you after reading and meditating on these verses.*

The LORD is my strength and my song; (Psalm 118:14)
The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; (Psalm 16:5)
The LORD is my strength and my shield; (Psalm 28:7)
The LORD is near to all who call on Him, (Psalm 145:18)

Take those descriptors to heart as a part of your Monday musings.

Later come up with you own "The LORD is" verses that speak to you and share with me or someone else.

MAGNIFY THE LORD!

"Oh magnify the LORD with me and let us exalt His name together." (Psalm 34:3)
How does one magnify the LORD?
It helps NOT to magnify one's problems.
Think less grumpiness and more gratitude. Think trust!

We can pour out our complaints before Him as David did in Psalm 142:2 knowing that we can leave the outcomes, good and bad, at His feet for HIs glory and our good.
Thank you LORD for dealing bountifully with us. (v.7)

Turn to God's Word daily to magnify the Lord!

SPIRITUAL HOKEY POKEY!?

Monday Musings from a Sunday Sermon.
Beginning our COLD, SNOWY Day with a bit of Hokey Pokey practice so we would be ready for a "Snowy Hokey Pokey" was a bit crazy......especially when we still get our left and right hand confused. We also trip a bit when we try to take our left foot out. Could be because there is a spiritual lesson there. It's okay to be "odd for God" to learn life lessons. (Pace McKee)

All of this to teach a youngster that in Christianity there is no Spiritual Hokey Pokey. it's not one foot in and one foot out. (Pace McKee)
It's ALL in for Jesus!

A good reminder for all of us.

May the Lord hear our WORSHIP from afar on this COLD, SNOWY day!

MUSING ON BENDING GOD'S EAR

"Bending God's Ear in Times of Trouble" *was Allen Bible Church's sermon yesterday!
Pastor, Buddy Liles, assured the Texas congregation and those of us listening via livestream, that King David's, Psalm 86 "pressure cooker prayer," can give believers a vocab to express our trust even as we are troubled.
From our lips to God's ear. Whether he bends down to listen to my cry for help, (MSG) or inclines His ear as it says in Psalm 116:1, I know that when My anxious thoughts multiply within me, it's His consolations that delight my soul." (Psalm 94:19) Sounds like comfort to me.

How thankful I am that because of his goodness, God is eager to bend his ear to hear our cries for mercy and offer comfort. Whenever I'm in trouble (or distress,) I pray, knowing you will listen. (Psalm 86:7, CEV)
As we pour out our hearts to him in times of suffering we can trust Him to be our refuge.(Psalm 62:8).....an ever present help.

MONDAY MUSINGS!

Somethings "RING" TRUE.....whether in a Sunday sermon or are echoed in a Monday text from friend, Doris!

It's as if the Spirit of the Lord is saying, "Can you hear me now?"
Loud and clear musings for this last Monday in March.

Monday Musings in May

5/2/11 Since tonight winds up my BSF Isaiah study, I assumed that today's meditation would be one of the rich verses from that book. Yet, this morning as I was praying Psalm 33:20-22, for my friend, Ellen, who was having surgery, I decided those verses were worthy meditation for all blog readers’----way to focus on the ONE who is our help, our shield, our trustworthy Lord of mercy. The One in whose holy name we have hope.

Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You. (Psalm 33:20-22)

Definitely verses worthy of prayerful consideration.

But God…..did not let my meditation stop there. Though I am not a proponent of the “drop and plop” method of meditation selection, my eyes caught the word flood on the preceding page.

For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah (Psalm 32: 6-7)

Though one might think I was interpreting these verses as an answer to the “possibility” of rising water in my neighborhood, it really spoke to me of my own heart. This psalm had me reflecting more on the flood of troubles that seemed to be overwhelming me lately. I began praising Him---that’s what meditation produces---for sustaining me when I felt as if I were drowning in heartache and even in my own self-pity.

In the first verses of the psalm, the psalmist, David, is hiding from God, but in these verses he is seeking to hide in Him. God became his refuge. Today He is mine as well.
