Torn and Tattered. The way I feel some days!

Once belonging to F. Heron. Purchased by me in 1998(?) in Harley, England near Gatwick Airport. Diane A., JoLynn H. Pam Higg, and I were staying at Kevin's B&B near the antique shop. 

Reason for purchasing....Psalms prayers, Hymns of old & pictures similar the ones in Mama Davenport's KJV Bible.

I appreciated the wealth of wisdom therein.

 

God guides me with His counsel (wisdom TLB, wise advice, NIRV)....for me it is good to be near God;

Du-TEA-ful Prayers

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people. 

(Ephesians 6:18, NIV)

My prayer life seems anything but "normal." It seems as if I can run "hot and cold."

Prayer is personal. So....how can I sometimes feel that I fail at it.

On days when I see my cuppa as half empty instead of half full, I concern myself with distinguishing between intercession and petition if I'm praying for others.  If I'm thanking the Lord for his creation of colorful foliage and shrubs with berries on my "praise walk" which is it? Praise or thanksgiving ? Can it count for both? Does it matter?

It seems as if I blog a lot about needing help with my prayer life. But God....in His love and mercy continues to meet me right where I am accepting all my "heartfelt attempts" regardless of the method---or even lack thereof.

Du-TEA-ful and deligh-TEAful cuppas reminding me that any conversation with the Lord which comes from the heart is A--OK!

When Seth Stevens taught in August on this "song of assent," he emphasized the Jews were walking up to Jerusalem to the house of the Lord. Each year when they made their trek together the goal was the same---to draw closer to the Lord.

Four months later, I'm reminded, especially through church services and Christmas carols, to be grateful for that gift which I have received. Immanuel. God with us. God with me. It's a spiritually internal (now) / eternal (one day in the future) experience. Peace.

He is my peace. 

It's the gift I want to give to everyone this Christmas. Everyone needs it and His "God size" fits all---His peace forever!

He is with me. His peace is available for me. His peace is available for all.

He provided the perfect gift----His Son.

Journey: A Year of Days

5/6/11 Today is the first day of a journey with my new devotional book, A Year of Days. It's a companion to the Book of Common Prayer, which "resides" on my bedside table. It's a gift from dear Margie H. and it's story is a treasure.
Today's entry coordinates with PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE p.386. "I ask your prayers for all who seek God, or a deeper knowledge of Him. " That alone is a great beginning for the story that follows:

• Each of us has a "birth" story of spiritual meaning--an "explosion of grace" or a "gradual dawning" of a call to follow Jesus.


• The journey continues as we find other believers and live together in community and are instructed in the faith.


• As the journey progresses we share love, joys and grief and our capacity to feel all of those emotions for each other grows.


• Deeper and deeper into our heart goes the love of God and thus grows our ability to love those in community. It's the story of the Christian faith.

Kingly Prayers Needed

1/23/10 The Kate-William betrothal is on every one’s tongue. A royal wedding is planned this spring for Prince William and “commoner” Kate Middleton. “First Commoner to Marry Heir to Throne in 350 Years” is how the Atlanta Journal Constitution put it. It’s big news not only because everyone loves a royal wedding but because he is 2nd in line to the throne of one of the most powerful countries in the world. He could presumably be seated on the throne within my (and your) lifetime. That’s big. Big because though the monarch's authority over the Church of England is not strong, the position is still very relevant to the church. Possibly prayer could connect the monarch and the church in more than a symbolic capacity. That would be really BIG.
So what should one pray for a future king? Years ago, I purchased a Common Book of Prayer for a mere £1, from a little antique store in Horley, England.

The Book of Common Prayer is a permanent feature of the Church of England's worship, much loved for its beautiful language and its source for rituals and ceremonies. Since this book is a model and inspiration for worship throughout England and is also foundational for the tradition of common prayer for morning and evening, I thought this would be a good place to begin praying. These prayers, now even available on-line, are taken from scripture and some are the confessional prayers of King David himself in Psalm 51. The apostles’creed and Lord’s prayer are included as well.

Though the copy I have includes prayers for King George, Prince William’s great-great grandfather, my prayer is that the future King and his betrothed will add prayer to their daily agendas. Maybe just picking up The Common Book of Prayer will be a good, familiar place to start. Praying together could certainly be a great beginning for their own relationship as well as preparation for the future monarchy. Long live King Jesus!
