MISTY MOUNTAIN MEANDERING!

In everything give thanks. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

When life's struggles overwhelm......give thanks!

When high temps prevent walking......give thanks.

In all medical circumstances that disappoint.....give thanks.

This morning, lower temps allowed an early morning walk----a first walk in July! More of a meandering! Thanks flooded my mind!

Handicap parking was available. No walkers blocking views. Sounds of rushing waters from last night's rain. His peace had cocooned my mind and heart.

Then, things changed----busloads  of  WCU cross country runners appeared for their 4 mile run......along with their photographer from Furman.
But God made it easy give thanks as all in their youthful strength and attitude, smiled and said hello as they passed us by....both coming and going!

Why give thanks? The answer is straight from God's Word.
It is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

WAY OF PEACE!

I "know" God is with me. So..........why do unexpected circumstances throw me off course? I "know" the answer. I respond to the wrong stimuli!
Sight and sound. Those loud thoughts of mine that bombard my mind as I try to live "without fear!" The last two hours of talking with medical folks on the phone and seeking info from recordings & portals......not people, have me desiring to have the "sky-writing" type affirmation from the LORD!
ALERT to self! Today is "Thankful Thursday"!
Though I might have struggle living without fear, a sign on cancer center windowsill, reminded  me to live with "faith over fear!"

A mere 2 days ago, I had "wall writing" at a doc appointment. A great summation of truth!"

There is always, always, always Something to be Thankful for.

It might not be skywriting & it might end in a preposition....but it's a clear declaration of His way of peace.
Trust in Him paired with gratitude for His steadfast love, is God's will for us in Christ Jesus! (1Thessalonians 5:18)

CHOOSE: TO GIVE THANKS

Even a note pad of jottings and urgencies can remind one of the importance of always giving thanks.(1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Give thanks with a grateful heart.

Maybe enjoy the music while sipping a cuppa gra-TEA-tude & pondering Ephesians 5:19-20.

CHOOSE: TO BE MUCH OBLIGED

Much obliged---was an old-fashioned expression Daddy often used. It was his way of saying "thank you." "Thank you very much!" Actually "much obliged" seemed to be the vernacular of small town rural folks in western Kentucky. My grandmother, Gena Adams, used it too, but she then would view the obliged part, as something she had to do

Though obliged does indicate an obligation I'm not sure Daddy saw the obligation as something he had to do, just something he wanted to do. "Desired to do"would have been more a part of his mettle,  as he was always so appreciative of the kindness and generosity of others. Though in fact, most people didn't expect a pay back or a return for the favor. It was just the Hoptown way.

Our friends, the Walkers, heard that our  grandson Owen was in his school's chess club. They gave us an exquisite chess set to  pass on to Owen as a way to encourage his pursuit of that hobby.
I was definitely "much obliged" and I want Owen to be grateful as well. He never sees them to say thank you so I want to encourage him to write a thank you note. Courtesy is a character trait, I want to instill in him. It's important to learn at an early age to "sip" from a cuppa great-TEA-tude especially when one has been served a large cuppa generous-TEA. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
Not because "one has to" but because "one wants to."
Whether one chooses to say, "much obliged," thank you very much or just thanks, gratitude is always the right choice!

CHOOSE: TO CELEBRATE FREEDOM WITH GRATITUDE

JULY 4TH 2017!
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord/ (Psalm 33:12)
Today choose to thank a member of our military. The marines are at the Farmington Kroger in Germantown! (Before the rain)
Better yet, if you are blessed enough to have a family member choosing to currently serve in our military or a "vet" in your family, give them a big hug or at least a phone call.

CHOOSE: GRATITUDE

There is nothing like prayer---when it comes from the lips and heart of others on one's behalf.
"I have prayed for you." (Luke 22:32) "I pray that God.....will fill you with joy...."(Romans 15:13)
How can I pray for you?
Do you have any specific prayer requests for this week?
I praised the Lord today for our friendship.
I'm rejoicing with you on God's answer to the prayers we've been praying over these last few years.

"I prayed for you today." (One of my warriors, 6/13/17)
Those words are music to my ears----making it easy to choose gratitude.

CHOOSE: GRATITUDE

Daddy used to begin his day, "thanking the good Lord for everyday He gave Him."
That's not a bad idea as everyday is a gift from Him.
I sip from my cuppa "graTEAtude" as a reminder.
Today is indeed God's gift.
Choose "Gratitude" as an expression of that and live it out for the rest of the day!

CHOOSE DANCING

Choosing dancing can be an easy choice when life is going well.

It can also be an easy choice when one is at the Apple store getting help on a disabled computer while using their wifi. Apple Store wifi dances and does not drop----hooray for "dancing" wifi!"

But....do we sometimes get complacent and forget to choose dancing. Forget to celebrate. Forget to be thankful.
Dancing can be an expression of gratitude.
Gift from Ashley Bryan---Used with the Artist's Permission
A video with "my" Ukraine ladies dancing with the Lord with their ladies from India warmed my heart. They chose to take my D.A.N.C.E. dance to India. We often think we, the United States, are the only ones who send missionaries. At the missions conference this week the number of missionaries going out from South Korea was unbelievable.
Some are sent to the US. Just last year, I met, in Turkey, a lady from South Korea who, with her husband, had been a missionary in New York City.
Such news pleased me as NY is home to three of my most precious loved ones.
That kind of news makes is easy to "choose dancing!"

SABBATH SNAPSHOT : simplici-TEA of prayer

Readabili-TEA is a cuppa which Max Lucado's books always offer. He is the consummate storyteller. His latest, before amen, is no different!
Simplicity of prayer, for the author, comes in the form of "The Pocket Prayer."
Father,
      you are good.
I need help. Heal me and forgive me.
                 They need help.
                         Thank you.
                               In Jesus' name, amen.

Each chapter expands on a segment of the prayer with great stories interwoven. There is also a study guide provided to aid folks in spanning the gap between "prayer in theory and prayer in practice." (p. 101)

Naturally, the "Thank You" chapter was my favorite with its "alphabetized blessings." N was for naps---that would certainly make my list!!
In Scripture, giving thanks is not a suggestion; it is a command. (p. 83) I especially appreciated Lucado's explanation of ingratitude as the original sin.
Adam and Eve had a million reasons to give thanks. They lived in a perfect world. Then Satan slithered into the garden and, just like that, Eden wasn’t enough. Oh the hissing we hear. “Don’t you want more?” (UpWords, 11/26/14*)
"Gratitude is a dialysis of sorts. It flushes the self-pity out of our systems." (p. 82)
For me, the "Thank You" chapter alone makes the book worth the read.

"securi-TEA" : recollections

Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!
(Psalm 122:7, ESV)

There is much variance in the security continuum. The security felt by a baby in a mother-child relationship is at the opposite end of the spectrum from a security of a nation with fortified borders. Somewhere in between is that home security of a "safe" neighborhood and that brotherhood security of belonging......to a family or a group.

On this Memorial Day 2014, I recall the sense of security (belonging) that Daddy felt on Saturdays, especially after Mother died, when he went to the VFW for his "virtually free" lunch. He always gave a "donation" to the jar, and would comment on what a great deal it was to get a bowl of soup or chili with a hotdog or maybe even a plate of spaghetti. But the best deal was the welcome he received from his place at the same table week after week.** Decatur Adams to his left and Tag Mabry to his right with Daddy in his listening position between the two. Daddy was a listener. He and Tag both served in the army  on Goodenough Island in the Solomon Sea (New Guinea) during WWII, tho they didn't realize it until they returned home after the war. Tag had no trouble in recounting those days and Daddy understood where he was coming from in his tales. A sense of security builds between folks who have been on the same side of a struggle.

Tho he rarely would talk about it, Daddy was later wounded on the isle of Leyte in the Philippines. The US lost 3500 men in 67 days in October 1944. I do remember that Daddy, the platoon leader, and his men walked in the muck for so long that Daddy"s (and others?) boots virtually rotted off his feet. Once he and his men came upon a small vacated cabin. Inside was an old upright piano. One of his men sat and played familiar songs which they all tearfully "sang" as they recalled the tune and some of the words. Daddy said that at that moment of surprised joy and delight, he decided that his home with Mother would have a piano. 2211 South Virginia Street had an old upright piano in the front hall for as far back as I can remember. I took piano lessons from Mrs. Bell who lived just across Virginia Street, but never became "accomplished." Son, Buddy however still plays, mainly by ear so maybe Daddy started a good thing because hubby and I  had a piano in our first home as well.

Daddy was seriously wounded in the leg at Leyte by a Japanese sniper high in a tree. Daddy was sent to a military hospital and eventually returned to the states. Daddy became a member of that brotherhood of veterans who were awarded the purple heart.
The day after his wounding, another sergeant took Daddy's place, leading the platoon on maneuvers. Ambushed by the Japanese, none survived. That event is probably the reason Daddy chose not to talk very often about the war.
We still hang our flag in honor of our vets whose valor
has afforded us our freedom and security for all these years!
Growing up as a child of one who was a member of the GI Generation (dubbed the "Greatest Generation" by Tom Brokaw) I always felt secure---there was no reason not to in our little town. But now, as an adult, and as grateful as I am for all the military protection that comes from living in a democracy, I realize that no borders are ever totally secure.  9/11 broadcasted that truth in living (and dying) color.

But God....in His love and mercy provides a security that goes beyond walls and towers. His cuppa securi-TEA is the one I sip with gratitude, knowing that even if all our defenses fail, He never does.

Eterni-TEA with the Lord is the BEST cuppa securi-TEA. It is served with peace.

gra-TEA-tude

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with gratitude; for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer (I Timothy 4:4-5, NASB)
During a season of discontent, many offers for relief are offered. Even this week, news articles have been written in the morning paper on remedies, for this pattern of sadness and heaviness, that seems to occur this particular time of year.

Some things that come our way in life, regardless of the time of year, can seem anything but good. Yet, scripture reminds us, "in everything gives thanks." (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
That "prescription" from God's word is more that just a platitude. It's a directive. So, how does one give thanks when he/she doesn't feel thankful.
Year's ago I read that changing one's focus was a beginning for the cultivation of a thankful heart.  Look for the positive. My "tangible" response to that suggestion was a listing of things I was thankful for---a Blessing Book. A small start with a big result.
Needing a repast of thankfulness, I reread from that book as I spent time with the Lord and sipped my cuppa of gra-TEA-tude. A cuppa that I hope will overflow with a big result.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2013!

11/28/13 So much to be thankful for---family all together, a rare occurrence.
Unbelievable food. "Adult kids" did all the cooking & table setting, under the tutelage of Josh & Megan----even pushing me out of the kitchen with the command, "just enjoy your grandchildren!" A command with a reward!
Love & gratitude to all our family and friends !
An "attempt" at a group picture at the end of the day....
Lucy wouldn't get in the picture, but she liked her Elmo hat.

Psalm 145:1-7---Our scripture reading before we asked our blessing.
1 I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
