LOVE GOD, SERVE OTHERS! AUGUST 25, 2026

DOLLY PARTON died yesterday, August 25, 2026!
A lady who lived out Mark 12:30 as she,
"Loved the Lord your (her) God with all your (her) heart, with all your (her) soul, with all your (her) mind, and with all your (her) strength......" and served others well (1 Peter 4:10) (Emphasis, mine)

Serving family, friends and others was a reflection of her faith.
A true reflection of her love for the LORD!

Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world uses His lambs to minister in the world to other followers of Jesus. It's called fellowship!

CARING!

If people could use one word to describe you, what do you think it would be? Given that challenge to describe friend, Crickett, one word kept coming to mind. Caring.
Think synonymously....Kind. Concerned. Thoughtful. Trustworthy.
My One Word to encompass Crickett Keeth.... "Caring"-- with all the above listed facets.

Crickett has always understood the value of fellowship, knowing how difficult it is to do life alone. She shows this as she blesses lives of many.

She cares for others in various ways with her time, resources and strengths:

  • devoted to others in love as she honors them above her self. (Romans 12:10)
  • serves others humbly in love (Galatians 5:13c)
  • carries another's burdens, (Galatians 6:2a)
  • trustworthy to keep requested secrecy .... as she looks to the interest of others (Philippians 2:4)
  • In fact, Crickett is known world-wide as a caring encourager who builds up women and spurs them on in a teaching ministry. (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

GOD is not unjust; He will not forget your (Crickett's) work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them. (Hebrew 6:10)

Now, that's caring at its best! Think all caps...........

THINK CARING CRICKETT!

Then.....THANK CRICKETT for listening to the Lord and coming to First Evan 17 1/2 years ago.

IMPORTANT EXERCISE

Exercise is important!
Exercise can be difficult to incorporate into one's daily schedule.
Exercise with another can be an encouragement.
Exercising with another, aka fellowship, is essential for growth, from physical to spiritual!
Fellowship, sharing time in God's word laced with prayer and physically coming alongside others in their struggles of life is an important earthly exercise with an eternal result. (Acts 2:42, 44)

CHOOSE: TO EMPATHIZE

In his latest book, If I Understood You, Would I Have This look on My Face?, Alan Alda calls misunderstanding the grit in the gears of daily life that "jams" our relationships. (p.4)
That's why one needs to empty oneself of that self-promoting/arcane language that causes misconceptions and often hinders our relationships with others.
We can suffer the snags of misunderstanding---in important relationships b/c we are getting so bogged down in confusing language that usurps the important aspects of communication--relating well to other people.

What are the essentials of relating well to others? According to Alda, empathy is key---a fundamental ingredient in for real communication. An important component of communicating well with others.

The intro alone with his funny dental experience when he didn't understand the tethering of his maxillary labial frenum is a worthy read in and of itself! As an author, actor and screenwriter, Alda once again shows his unassuming intelligence along with his uncanny ability to make sense of the minutiae of an esoteric language whether that of a scientist, computer engineer, researcher or medical professional. His goal is to teach those in medicine, insurance or technology to talk to the rest of us by stressing empathy.

Empathy. In acting, it's called relating. (p.5) Listening to them. Hearing them. Observing them.

In Scripture it's putting ourselves in another's place. Not being self-promoting, but considering others more significant that yourself. (Philippians 2:3) A way of looking more to another's interest than our own. (1Corinthians 10:24)

Maybe in communicating/relating with others, we all need to do the same. Empathize.

As scripture puts it, an understanding that gives one the sensitive ability to "bear one another's burdens." (Galatians 6:2)

Simply put, choose empathy.

weigh-TEA

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2, KJV)
Bogged down for several weeks with some disturbing feelings, thoughts, and possible decisions that seemed to weighty for me, I finally asked for help. Help in the form of prayers from the household of faith. God's people. Some things need to be shared.

There are some "teas" that need to be brewed with the Lord's help---- "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28) and then poured out to others.
"Come along inside and we'll see if tea and buns can make the world a better place." (Wind in the Willows)
Weigh-TEA-----should be a "tea for two."

ENCOURAGEMENT

1/20/12 I love Really Woolly® . I like the Really Woolly® plush sheep for my Christmas mantle. The ones I have, adorn the place above my "grands'" stockings. Since, I don't have all of them, I keep my eyes open so that I can make sure I have all I need just in case there are future grands. Friend, Melody and sister-in-law, Carolyn, who have my "missing" ones---you'd better watch out!

I really love the " Really Woolly® " cards---that seem to lift encouragement to a new level for me.

Today, I needed just such a card. Especially when the sentiment indicates, "today I prayed for you." (Galatians 6:2) Carrying that encouragement with me as I head out the door to have my skull checked----or as daughter said, "Go and see about your brain!" Now there's some encouragement----how I love her dry wit. She has always had a way of encouraging me and "keeping me in my place" at the same time.

Saturday's Post----------More Than Words……

3/12/11……that’s what encouragement often is. Caring people who “bear one another’s burdens.” (Galatians 6:2) My life has been filled with these “who are more than cheerleaders” my “T-Cups” with whom I shared a 1,000 laughs last night, my “lunch bunch,” my “dining divas”, my Hoptown chums, college chums, Pi Phis, my dancers, neighbors, my Mary Flo, my Michèle etc., etc., etc. As many of you know these were the ones who “fulfilled the law of Christ” as they bore my burdens through my cancer journey. They carried my family and work responsibilities while feeding, nursing and baby sitting me. These folks in the land of the living showed the goodness of the Lord. (Psalm 27:13) and therefore I was not dismayed.

All of us of the community of faith are called to do likewise.

Caring people (those "helping" others in need) bring to mind today's Scripture text which is a powerful rule for the earnest follower of Christ. We are to "bear one another's burdens." To "bear" means to carry or endure. A "burden" means a weight that is heavy or crushing. We have all had experiences in life when others have some alongside and borne our burdens. We are called to do likewise. GAL 6:10 "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith."

What does "burden bearing" and "doing good" look like? Phone call or e-mail. Errand running. Intercessory prayer at 3am. (Thanks, Bernie) Mail pick-up. Babysitting.

This verb, “bearing” is both imperative (a command) and continuous action. (on-going) Writing that card, making that phone call, picking up that RX or praying for those who need relief from their hardship or difficulty, can be a way to bless them. This has the power to lighten burdens and encourage beyond positive words.
Encouragement is more than words.

Beyond Social Networking

3/5/10
Did you ever wonder what a “Facebook” page for God would look like? Would you accept if He asked you to be his friend? What would you write on His wall? Would you want others to see what He might right on your wall?

Not being much of a social networker, I’m not exactly qualified to blog about this relatively new, but exploding, phenomenon. I know from the tech-savvy teens at HHS that there are lots of ways to connect with others. These digital natives, who are always plugged in or logged on, can at the same time be virtually tuned out---disconnected. Connected only in a in a virtual sense, as I indicated in a previous blog.

I don’t have a twitter account so I never have occasion to tweet. Yet, these kids have already advanced to complimenting each other by retweeting. If I were on twitter with God, He would read all my “tweets” ----even the harried ones of seemingly insignificant details like, “what can I fix for supper?” to “where can I park?” He would also read my text messages but texting takes me way too long. It’s hard to pour out my heart on a miniscule phone keyboard. Prayer is the best instant messaging I have.

Whatever you want to talk about is out there in cyberspace---a global conversation just waiting for you to chime in, especially with like-minded folks, those others who share your passions Virtual (not actual/hypothetical) connections are surface level at best----rarely going beyond “chit-chat” in the relational realm. Whatever you need to talk to God about is also okay. He's interested. He's waiting. He shares your passions but He goes deeper.

Winnie the Pooh says, “You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes.”

Maybe we need to really go, not virtually go---you know, face to face, not facebook to facebook. Can you go in person today to “link up” with someone in need---in need of an “atta boy” or an “atta girl” or “you can do it” or just in need of you being there with a listening ear.

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
