COLLECTIVE NOUNS!

Friend, ljj, has introduced me to many collective nouns. She has peaked my interest for animal groups.
One of my favorites is this "sparkle" one. A "sparkle" of fireflies!
Don't we all want to "sparkle."

Another fun fact I learned from a 1985's park ranger's talk about Synchronous Fireflies, indigenous to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, is they are monogamous. Of course we're talking days or weeks, not years.

But, I digress from collective nouns---so typical for an "always distracted one."

Congregation of alligators--but don't think I want to go to their church.
A shiver of sharks seems about right as I get the shivers thinking of encountering them.
Squad of squid.
Flamboyance of flamingos.

Collective nouns have become a real find---so I decided to create one of my own!

"Giggle of girls." Female "girls" in their 70s who travel together, when they remember to "show up" and often have to cross their legs when the laughter of sharing old memories begins. This "tea towel" alway brings laughter to my grands when they see it hanging by the oven. Even they know how true that can be for me!

CSB and CEB versions of Psalm 139:3, state that the Lord observes (CSB) and studies (CEB) my travels. In other words wherever we are, whether traveling or resting, He is aware of the paths we are taking. He indeed is aware. Thoroughly familiar with all our ways.

The LORD God made us all, each with a unique purpose. (Psalm 139:13) May we live it out collectively with others in the faith.

OUR HAPPY PLACE.....EARTHSIDE!

Where is it? Don't know yet! It's always a secret and it's always "the best yet!"
Today will be #21! It will be a happy place because all 6 of the "sistas" will be there with COVID vaccination card in hand, masks available as needed and enough snacks to take us "to the moon and back" because that's the way we love each other. (and food) Both bring refreshment to our souls at our Happy Place. (Proverbs 27:9)

UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

Many medical questions still unanswered BUT this time it's an intriguing unanswered question!
A fun one no matter what the actual answer is.
#20 in 2020
Will let you now when I know!
And the answer is ......a "masked" expedition to explore Tannenbaum, trip # 20 for my T-Cup friends.
Behold how good and how pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity. (Psalm 133:1)

CHOOSE: HAPPY

This sign is a BIG reminder of the "choice!" Thanks to Nancy E. for sending it to me from somewhere in Nashville.
Sometimes "happy" is a choice but receiving this encouraging picture let's me know someone out there is reading my blog. Intuit way, "happy" found me.
Just after typing this I headed upstairs to put away linens and "happy" found me once more---in the form of encouragement.
My T-Cup travelin' buddies gave me this "happy" bear as I was preparing to leave for Texas (2009) for an unknown # of of cancer surgeries. It even had "my cancer" verse, Psalm 30:11,  embroidered on it.
To this day overtime I squeeze his little foot and he sings, "Come on Get Happy,"  I smile---and puddle at the same time, as I recall their send-off filled with love, prayers, encouragement and hope!!! God so answered prayers of healing and blessing during that season of suffering. During my surgeries, they took turns coming to Texas to be my "came-giver/nurses!
Click here to hear the tune---"Come on Get Happy"

Hello world here's a song that we're singing Come on get happy. A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringing We'll make you happy.
Travelin' along there's a song that we're singin' Come on get happy. A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringin' We'll make you happy We'll make you happy .
We had a dream we'd go travelin' together And spread a little lovin', then we keep moving on Something always happens whenever we're together We get a happy feeling when we're singing a song.
Maybe I should choose to encourage others so that "happy" can find them.

Pittsburgh Possibili-TEAs

The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
(Proverbs 16:9, NASB)

So many possibiliti-TEAs for our 24th annual amigas trip. Barbara, concierge at the William Penn in Pittsburgh, said our proposed schedule was a little too ambitious. Watch out Barbara!
We are on plan G---and God's plans are always exceedingly abundantly above all we could ask or hope. (Ephesians 3:20) Plus, factoring in a touch of "female rebelness" virtually assures an all-out effort.
Hysterically funny play at the Cabaret theatre. Christmas Events---lights EVERYWHERE. The Nutcracker. Wintergarden exhibit at PPG w/ around the holiday displays, think Santa in every language.
Wintergarden's Ukraine  tableau celebrates Holy Supper, a family feast, on January 6.
Creche at US Steel Plaza ; only authorized replica of Vatican's creche in St.Peter's Square in Rome, Italy

The Cathedral of Learning's national rooms (actual classrooms used by the students) were all decorated for Christmas on the University of Pittsburg Campus.
Romanian Room
Click for unforgettable tour of any of the 30 rooms of your choice.
Of course, the Ukraine room (above) was my favorite.
Carnegie Museums of History and Art. Andy Warhol museum.Phipps Conservatory with 14 rooms of Christmas blooms and vignettes.Heinz Center.
Bonnie & Rosie the Riveter at the Heinze Historical  Center
The weather might have been overcast and drizzly and the hotel room a little WARM on occasion, at least for post-menopausal women, but the FUN and FRIENDSHIP trumped it all. Who says we can't find our way across the street to a restaurant---or at least have an adventure trying!

As always, we ate our way thru the city----Downtown, Oakland, The Strip, Mount Washington and Station Square, to name a few. Everything from Southie drink & fried pickles at Meat and Potatoes, and Desserts at The Porch to fancy meals with sensational seafood at Grand Concourse with river view seating and pierogies and great entrees at the award winning Carlton. Plus, the BEST Eggs Benedict ever (Baltimore style, with crabcakes) in the Terrace Room at our hotel.

Pamela's in "The Strip" w/ nostalgic photos on the wall and crunchy edge hotcakes loved by me--
and Obama, too, according to the autographed wall art photo!
Gigi holds all "the goods."
Primanti Bros. even had "sweet tea" on the menu---imagine that! They also serve french fries and slaw on the pastrami/corned beef sandwiches and have fried dill pickles that are nuclear HOT!
This trip there was lots of "tea" for me. I sipped tea, (via an incline for a cuppa at the Grand Brew) bought tea in The Strip and was served tea by my friends when I was having a bit of a tummy issue.

We certainly sipped a BIG cuppa all the possibilit-TEAs on our Pittsburgh Neighborhood's Bucket List.

But Mr. Roger's Neighborhood is still my favorite neighborhood.

"TEA-rip" with friends

I have called you friends, (John 15:15, NIV)

Our annual T-cup trip begins today. Destination unknown---until the BIG reveal later....after our sweet treat and joint tea---whatever joint tea is.
It doesn't really matter where we are going. We're just going as friends on a "girls' get-a-way." And of course we'll probably have tea somewhere along the way.

The BIG plus of this T-cup TEA-rip is that we are not only "girlfriends" at a similar season in life, but we are friends in the faith.
That means Jesus goes along for the ride.

SABBATH SNAPSHOTS: A Mountain Journey, from treetops to rivers below

6/10/12 Trekking "from the treetops to the rivers below" with a friendly bunch of sisters in the faith is a great eye-opener to the hand of God in every facet of life.
Friends come and friends go, but a true friend sticks by you like family. (Proverbs 18:24, The Message)

Sing, O heavens, for the Lord has done it!
 Shout joyfully, you lower parts of the earth;
Break forth into singing, you mountains,
O forest, and every tree in it! For the Lord has redeemed Jacob,
And glorified Himself in Israel.  (Isaiah 44:23)

Flame azaleas growing wild

A Day Lily for my "Day Lilies" a common mispronunciation

Henize Pavilion at Buzzard Rock---what a view!

Mountain rhododendron, often confused with mountain laurel, especially in the Great Smoky Mountains

Clingman's Dome viewed from a zip-line platform 85' up with 12 folks on a zip-line platform built for 4!
Though we were the oldest in the treetops, we had the most fun on all 13 zips.

Isaiah 43:2 came to mind on the Nantahala raft trip. “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you." We might have been the oldest on the river, but that could have been the reason we had the most fun in 48° water or at least the reason we made the most noise.

Girlfriends’ Getaway

6/8/10 Girlfriends’ Getaway, aka T-Cup Trekking, or this year it’s a T-Cup Old South Cotton and Magnolia Tour. At this point the destination is unknown. I assume I will find out at the breakfast surprise this morning. Clues given earlier by our trusty guide were so nebulous none of us have a clue.
  • Wear red, white and blue to breakfast.
  • Fit for a queen.
  • Bring a swim suit but don’t worry, no one will see you in it.
  • Tina’s been there.
  • Georgia influences the schedule.
See why we don’t have a clue---except we all assume it’s somewhere in Mississippi.
Do we care? Not really. It’s just another aspect of the fun for 6 post-menopausal grandmothers. The real purpose is just to get together and share this season of our lives.
It will be a time to laugh, (maybe even cry) to embrace, to speak (lots of that) and maybe even to dance.
It will not be a time to be on the computer. I’m going “unplugged” so I’ll write when I return from wherever the “tour” leads. It’s a getaway that we have vowed never to let go-away, even when we have to hire a driver!

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: (Proverbs 15:13)

Getting away with these 5 friends makes me merry indeed.
