KEEP SINGING TO THE LORD!

Sing to the LORD a new song. Psalm 40 tells us a new song can flow from divine grace.
A Psalm also filled with steadfast love references motivating worship!
Think praises. An overflowing fountain.
"Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, Tune my  Heart to Sing Thy Grace".
Even an old familiar hymn can wash over us with renewed vigor (loud shouts, Psalm 33:3) when we add our personal praise lyrics to it.....or a lyre, a harp of 10 strings. (Psalm 33:2.)
Singing is worship! Keep singing even if others carry a tune better than you. (For me, it's sweet Pat, from Tampa who summers in the mountains & carries a beautiful tune as she sits beside me on the back row.)

Singing from the heart is the key and delights the LORD!
Keep singing! Let the Lord's steadfast love be upon you! (Psalm 33:22)

A TOUCH OF TRUE ART!

TRUE ART......touches all one's senses!
Disclaimer---Sometimes the sense of taste comes as I eat chocolate while enjoying it.
My eyes see it as I enter the room!
My fingers touch and outline the words! My hands enjoy the quilting of the fabric.
I can even smell the freshness of the fabric.
How does one "hear" such art? The words of my favorite hymn flow from the art right to my heart and my own humming and singing reach my ears.

It's a "SCENT"sational gift of true art from the artist who uses her ability as a ministry to touch the hearts of others!
It certainly touched  mine!

SCATTERED!

May I set my mind---center my scattered mind.
It's the first thought I had this morning looking out the window as I headed to my prayer chair. All week, I have watched the pile of scatterings increase both in the yard and in my distracted mine.

"Why the impact of scattered petals?" one might ask. These heritage snowball bushes were from the family home of my most influential spiritual mentor, Mama Davenport, Margaret Louise Hooper of Hampton Station, Ky.

The force that drives and scatters my mind in many directions is NOT the force Mama Davenport taught me. She taught me to trust the "force" of Christ in my heart. She knew that as I matured there would still be times when I would be "prone to wander" & need to "bind my wandering heart to Thee" as my old favorite hymn said. ("Come Thou Fount")

Today I chose to follow through...........
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, oh take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above.

....set my heart, aong with my mind & my voice, on things above. AMEN!

Center & settle me again today O Lord,----in honor of my grandmother and to the glory of your son, so that our sweet Jesus, the only true force, may once again spring forth!

SING-SING A SONG!

SING! From "10,000 Reasons" to old fashion hymns---okay if off-key.
How marvelous! how wonderful! And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous! how wonderful Is my Savior's love for me! (Cokesbury Hymnal #172, 1923)

SING FROM YOUR HEART----even a new song!! (Isaiah 42:100

WILTING AWAY

Why is it so easy for good intentions to wilt away right before my eyes? Just like my sunny bright yellow bouquet did yesterday! Wilted & faded right before by eyes---just as my breath has faded this week until breathing treatments began to kick in.
My energy cuppa is depleted. Do I need a cuppa S-TEA-rength????

"For with You is the fountain of life;" (Psalm 37:9a) I need to draw energy and direction from the "Fount" of every blessing. Inhaling deeply comes to mind. Inhaling at much all has been such a physical struggle this last week.

But God......lead me to an Oswald Chambers quote. "Watch how God will wither up your confidence in natural virtues....and in any power you have, until you  learn to draw your life (my very breath) from the reservoir of life.... of Jesus."(My Utmost For His Highest, 12/30) Then Chambers added, "Thank God if you are going through a drying up experience." So, that's what I'm doing as I hang on to his word, especially in different translations of Psalm 87:7. It's keeping me focused that my strength comes from nothing "natural" or pharmaceutically but only from the Jesus, One True Source.........
And while they dance, people sing: “The source of my life comes from you.” (CEB)All my springs of joy are in you. (NASB)The source of my life springs from Jerusalem! (NLT)
All my springs (my sources of life and joy) are in you. (AMPC)            My fountains are in Thee. (YLT)
As I was pondering these truths, Hubby came in the door with a perfect focal point from the farmer's market---A sunflower!....

...."not wilted" in any way and had survived last night's hail storm. Note all the seeds of hope in the middle of it!
Sunflower----a happy gift, a gift that symbolizes adoration of the One who created the sun and the sunflower.

CHOOSE: THY FOUNT OF EVERY BLESSING

Fountains can offer quiet tranquil places---places which evoke tranquility even in the midst of hubbub. Water can do that or me----reminding me to relax and be still, that God might speak.
Ask the One who is the source of the Living Water, to teach you that His words might come alive in your life, in spite of all the distractions and chaos. As the psalmist says in Psalm 42:2, "My soul thirsts for God. for the living God." (NIV)
In the Message version of Psalm 42:2, I read words that spoke to my thirsty heart.
I want to drink God, deep draughts of God. I'm thirsty for God alive. I wonder, 'Will I ever make it--arrive and drink in God's presence?' When can I go and meet with God.
How blessed one is to have God's Word at her fingertips.

"The word of God is alive and active." As Stephen reminded the Sanhedrin, Moses received living words to passion." (Acts 7:38) We need to remember these words as well.
Words that can be a fount of blessing when we share with others.

CHOOSE: TO "SEE" A SONG

This entry could have been, "Choose kiddie lit with your morning cuppa," because the book on the kitchen table was beckoning. I couldn't resist. The title alone drew me in.
Sometimes a simple children's book can open one's mind to possibilities.

My morning cuppa with Eric Carle's, I See a Song, had me contemplating "seeing" with each of  my senses, not just sight. I think Jenna Fergus' art lessons are permeating all areas of my thought processes.

That coupled with recalling all the ways "to see" which my"blind friend," Terry Parlow, had taught me, had my mind seeing with my eyes closed. After he lost his sight in an accident in 2004, he told me that his "vision" was sharper than it had ever been.
I think that's because his other senses were so heightened when he lost his vision.
Carle's succinctness is a creative reminder of the value of intensifying an experience by bringing all of one's senses to bear, rather than just the obvious one.
  • Hear color.
  • Paint music.
  • Let colors dance.
  • See your own song.
I would add: Feel color; Feel the beat; Rearrange lyrics to create your own song.

So, I closed my eyes and sang, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." A fount of every blessing. A tuning of my heart. A singing of grace. Unending mercy. LOUD, LOUD, PRAISE!!! A sealed heart!

I felt like the sounds in my head were accompanied by musical and non-muscal sounds from wind swooshes, water dancing and vibrations of a tuning fork.
Even colors came forth, from soft blues and to bright reds in the lyrics, as the words took root in  my head and ended with COLORFUL fireworks!

What a way to begin my day!

All because of a cuppa, a kid's book, and two friends who taught me to see with all my senses and sing & see with all my heart.

Serenditpi-TEA

...be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, (Ephesians 5:18b-19, NIV)
Today was Elnora's day---it's always the last Thursday of the month. A member of our family for over 35 years, Nora "raised" our babies. On her day, activities vary but always include food and often one of those crazy Madea movies, if one is showing. Today included a Whimsy Cookie Co stop. It was also going to include Bears, a nature movie because Elnora loves animal shows.
But....the time was different than we planned so we went "Heaven is for Real." The movie has gotten a lot of "rotten tomato" reviews so there were no high expectations. But then isn't that what serendipity is.....desirable discoveries, by accident.

Any movie that starts out with a choir practicing "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing" has a favorable start----since that, as most readers know, is my favorite hymn. Having read the book,  the storyline was familiar, but the scenery was a surprise----Nebraska panoramic at its best. Plus, the youngster who plays 4 year old, Colton was boyish adorable, with eyes that "talked."  It's the kid who steals the show.
If you don't believe me, ..... 90,700,000 results came up when I googled---adorable Heaven is for Real boy.

Nora, who always talks during a movie, was silent throughout. I who can't sing, sang along as it ended with my favorite verse of that favorite hymn of mine.
O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be!
Let that grace now like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here's my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.
An afternoon of serendipit-TEA, sweet tea at Soul Fish and a movie served with buttered popcorn, as an after thought.

Come Thou Fount.....

12/3/12 Today is Monday and on this blog that means meditation on a passage of scripture. Yet, it's been the words from this, my favorite hymn, that first started me thinking, particularly the last verse.
 O to grace how great a debtor
 daily I'm constrained to be!
 Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
 bind my wandering heart to thee.
 Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
 prone to leave the God I love;
 here's my heart, O take and seal it,
 seal it for thy courts above.
As Romans 7:18-19 bears truth to my struggle for goodness (whichI can't have apart from Him). No matter how hard I try, sometimes I still fail in spite of all my effort. But God.....in His love and
mercy has sealed me for Himself.
I know that good doesn’t live in me—that is, in my body. The desire to do good is inside of me, but I can’t do it. I don’t do the good that I want to do, but I do the evil that I
  don't want to do.
These words resonate the truth of my struggles and yet other versesoffer hope from His word. Adopted as His child, I have redemptionthru the blood of His Son. (Ephesians 1: 5)
I am grateful that because of my belief in Him God does "seal" me with His Holy Spirit of promise.
(Ephesians 1:13)
As you think on the significance of God's grace listen to Fernando Ortega  ("my" verse is after the instrumental part) as he
sings of the One who IS the
FOUNTAIN OF LIVING WATER!

M = MERCY ME---

12/29/09 ---or NOT.
 Mercy is definitely not one of my strong suits or spiritual gifts. But mercy is a STRONG enduring attribute of God---
---even Shakespeare recognized this when he wrote The Merchant of Venice. Portia’s begging of mercy from Shylock shows that when we extend mercy we are following God’s example.
  • But mercy is above this sceptered sway;
  • It is enthroned in the hearts of kings;
  • It is an attribute of God himself;
  • And earthly power doth then show like God's
  • When mercy seasons justice.
The bard gives the idea of an edict softened by compassion or circumstances tempered by the spirit of God. They represent justice seasoned with mercy. It’s like the five year-old who said, “I deserved a “whoopin’” but I got a hug.”

God is full of mercy. I’m so grateful that His mercy is unending…………my favorite hymn lyrics affirm this.
“Come, thou Fount of every blessing,
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.”

Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. (Hebrews 2:17)

MERCY ME---maybe I need to work on that in 2010!

Music Prompts

11/17/09
🎵🎶 ðŸŽµ

Without Music Life Would B♭---that’s what the t-shirt said in my latest “Wireless” catalog. Flat, indeed. It certainly rings true to me, even though I don’t stay “plugged in” like the teens at Houston High. I don’t even have my new iPod Touch (free) synced with my new iMac (not free) computer yet. Both are sources of frustration that could prompt me to tears.
I don’t always have music playing in the car or at home as many folks do. I do have my new "Tenors’ Christmas" CD playing now because this blog “prompted” me to put it in my iTunes. I also have it as loud as it will go because, in my opinion, opera should be played with VOLUME!

Music is a part of the life of the Lord, creator of all music. His delight in me can prompt Him to sing as well. According to Zephaniah 3:15 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Music often prompts tears for me. “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” is my favorite hymn and it always puts a knot in my throat and, more often than not, tears in my eyes. It was “my” song for seating as “mother of the bride”---so I had a special hanky handy. Special church services often include it as well, so I try to “gear up” but…….but if Peggy catches my eye from the choir loft and smiles, I “puddle.”
Music can prompt tears.

Church seems to turn over the Liles “tickle boxes,” as Daddy labeled my giggling fits of childhood, especially if we’re suppose to be quiet and somber. “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” is my favorite Christmas Carol and that causes no problems--- but let us sing “We Three Kings” and we all tend to fall apart. At least, we look askance at Larry who sings it loud and clear and in his “own key,” ---if there is such. It’s our family thing---an inside joke that happened each year during our Advent time (#3). It was shared with friends and even our Jewish neighbors who had heard about it.
Music can prompt laughter.

Whenever the Temptations “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” plays, Larry and I dance---regardless of where we are! He thinks I’ll probably try to rise up for one last dance, if he has it played at my funeral.
I also admit to doing a little toe tapping in church whenever I hear, "Lord of the Dance.”
Music can prompt dancing.

Whether on a praise walk or cleaning the house, a little music can help me to pick up the pace. Volume seems to help here as well.
Music can prompt energy.

Larry’s new “cash for clunkers” jeep came with a year’s subscription (free) to Sirius XM satellite radio. I don’t have that feature in my “old lady Cadillac,” so if I don’t have an audio book for travel, I choose his car. That way I can select the "60s on 6" channel and listen to music that I know the words to or can at least “understand” the lyrics.
Singing along favorite hymns or praise choruses brings an element of fellowship that is rich. However, I rarely sing out at church because I don’t have that gift. But I’ll “sing in the shower” or sing along with iTunes. I have numerous versions of “Come Thou Fount” and when I get to verse 3, I can belt it out---it rings so true, ..........................
O to grace how great a debtor
daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here's my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.
Music can prompt singing along.

Everyone knows that a quiet lullaby can help soothe a baby to sleep, unless his name is Josh Liles. With him, Larry turned the car radio on and drove him around (sometimes at midnight) just so I could sleep. I have friends who keep music going at bedtime to dispel the quiet and ease them into slumber.
Music can prompt rest/sleep.

Music is the international language. I have heard the melody of “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” sung by children at a zoo in Venezuela and recognized it even before the E-I—E-I—Os. I heard Silent Night in German and knew the English version because of years of singing it with my family. Music sticks with us and both melody and lyrics can trigger memories.
Music lingers and prompts our thoughts .

My friend, Carol Newman, sent this e-mail message to me. “The God who created music has songs for resting, songs for dancing, and songs of rejoicing over you!"

The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime;
And His song will be with me in the night,
A prayer to the God of my life." Psalm 42

“His song” is music to my ears and prompts praise from my heart.

GOODNESS: "FRUIT TRAIT” #6

8/27/09
Discipleship Tools taught me that goodness is the engagement of love! I think most of these qualities of the fruit of the Spirit are an overflow of love, His love. Cole taught me that the Greek word for goodness is the same as for virtue. Virtue is moral excellence and is the character trait that is valued as being good. What does it look like? People of goodness display integrity, honesty and compassion to others. Goodness compels/allows us to do the right thing---even when we don’t feel like it. The opposite of virtue is vice. Interestingly enough, the definition of vice lists everything from an immoral habit i.e. prostitution, gambling and drugs to mild failing in character. Hm-m-m a vice is a vice just like a sin is a sin---no real degrees of sinning even though our human nature tends to “rank” our sins. Obviously the more our lives are filled with goodness/virtue, the less room there is for those vices. So then the more we are filled with Him…..well you get the idea. Move over Self!
So, how do keep from wandering away from His goodness. One of my all-time favorite hymns, “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” holds a reference to His goodness in the last verse.

O, to grace how great a debtor
daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy goodness, like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love;
here's my heart, O take and seal it,
seal it for thy courts above.

It’s His goodness that keeps me from wandering, His goodness that restrains me from SELF. In my flesh, I’m so prone to wander. And it’s His goodness that keeps us merciful and scrupulous as we deal with others. Goodness is virtue in action and endears us to others. Ah but for the grace and goodness of God………
Tonight just “goodness facts” but next time it could get personal. That’s what God does every time I Trust Him On This Subject (or scripture)---He brings it on home to my plate. So I’m going to “serve” those THOTS up to you. Hope it won’t be too hard to digest.
