S.I.S.

S.I.S.----each of you. Listen up!
Struggles Increase Strength.....for those who suffer according to God's will. There is a point; His point.
Joni Erickson Tada, whose suffering season of disability will last a life time, shared once on a JoniandFriends Video of the time she had voiced these words from her soul---Tired, weary, collapsed, heavy, sad and defeated. Not voiced as a prayer. Yet, 30ish minutes later she felt a brightness in her chest as if God had answered what she hadn't even known was a prayer. She saw this as evidence (Isaiah 40:29) that God gives power to the faint and to those who have no might, He increases strength.

In The Way of The Wildflower,* Ruth Chou Simons stated, "It's grace that suffering isn't purposeless" (p. 110) and "It's grace when things don't happen according to my plan but happen for my good."
(p. 111)

Psalm 72 says, "God will deliver the needy who cry out"!
"Find Strength in Struggle."

Cry out, S.I.S.----Loud and Clear!!

THE LORD OUR SHEPHERD FOR HIS NAME'S SAKE!

For His Name's Sake.

That's Purpose

Regardless of what Bible version you choose....the purpose is to freely honor because we cannot earn, to honour most, to glorify for the sake of His name!
He makes His sheep lie down....He leads....He restores....He guides....for his name's' sake. (Laniak, p.103)

What a great purpose!

WAY OF PEACE!

I "know" God is with me. So..........why do unexpected circumstances throw me off course? I "know" the answer. I respond to the wrong stimuli!
Sight and sound. Those loud thoughts of mine that bombard my mind as I try to live "without fear!" The last two hours of talking with medical folks on the phone and seeking info from recordings & portals......not people, have me desiring to have the "sky-writing" type affirmation from the LORD!
ALERT to self! Today is "Thankful Thursday"!
Though I might have struggle living without fear, a sign on cancer center windowsill, reminded  me to live with "faith over fear!"

A mere 2 days ago, I had "wall writing" at a doc appointment. A great summation of truth!"

There is always, always, always Something to be Thankful for.

It might not be skywriting & it might end in a preposition....but it's a clear declaration of His way of peace.
Trust in Him paired with gratitude for His steadfast love, is God's will for us in Christ Jesus! (1Thessalonians 5:18)

5 IMPORTANT WORDS!❗️

Important words come from scripture! Truth from above 5 words!
Truth from the first five words in 1 Peter 2:21…….

“ to this you were called,”

A big thanks to Nancy E. For this reminder.
Prayer is not useless.
Prayer is THE work!
God gives His people His work to do.

Christ is your example.
Be alone with Him!
Seek Him through His Word! (Jeremiah 29:13)
Seek His leading for you.
THEN, follow in His steps!

1 Peter 2:21 “in 5 words or less” in 5 sentences.

It’s “Meditation Monday”…..
Think on these things!

ONE STEP AT A TIME!

Step by step! May the Spirit of the Lord rest upon us--a Spirit of wisdom and understanding, a Spirit of counsel and strength, a Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. (Isaiah11:2) As Jesus relied on the Holy Spirit for direction, (Mark 1:12) may we as well during this time of transition.

In Henry Blackaby's Words, "Allow God to lead you step by step to produce lasting spiritual growth in you." (Experiencing God, 236)
If we walk with Him closely today, we will be in the center of His will tomorrow.
Henry Blackaby
May VICTORY come one step at a time. Victory in Jesus!

PRAYERS AVAILETH MUCH!

Actually, James says,  .......it's the effective fervent prayer of a righteous man that availeth much." (James 5:16)

Asking according to the Father's will is key as well.

Pray warriors I know are all proponents of intercessory prayer;
Family and friends,
Salvation for non-believers,
Revival for believers,
Pastors and missionaries,
Church leaders and teachers,
City, state, and country.

Prayer from the heart for God's glory and His purpose is key and availeth much!

ENOUGH SAID!!

Ever heard the old adage, You can't "judge a book by it's cover"....
Except when you can.
Picking up devotional book, Experiencing Good @ BookMark, Second Presbyterian's bookstore, I realized I could judge this book,  based on the  back cover imprint.

The book's cover quote had me meditating on those 17 words through out the day.
IF WE WALK WITH HIM CLOSELY TODAY, WE WILL BE IN THE CENTER OF HIS WILL TOMORROW (Henry Blackaby)
One can walk with Him daily as they seek his word & let go of the "if only" and the "what if." Stay in the day. (Matthew 6:34)

Enough said!

ANSWERED PRAYER!

No prayer is too small or insignificant to be heard and answered by God.
Some are answered immediately.
Sometimes we must wait.
Others are not quite the answer we had sought.

There's an answered prayer here. Look closely!*
It's only significant to me. Hubby knew so he searched. He found it yesterday. It was after I accepted the loss. Acceptance. Then Gad answered  It was like a "trust" lesson.

Call unto me and I will answer thee and shew thee great and might things which thou knowest not. (Jeremiah 33:3, KJV)

When our prayers align with God's will (Thy will be done.) and purpose He always answers for our good and His glory.

*Look carefully in the top right rectangle & it's in the lower left corner of that rectangle.

Signposts

Signposts. Sometimes they are hard to see, aren't they?
God's word offers so many signals, signs, and guidance for life. Yet, sometimes in a hard place, I'm not quite sure of God's will on that particular situation.
I would like signs as clearly posted as the ones offering directions for this week's VBS kids at First Evan. Wouldn't you?
Maybe the answer was reflected in the entrance sign.
Enter here.
Entering into His Presence is the "signpost" for the best place to start---His Presence is base camp for the Christian who seeks to gain strength and power to move on up in his/her spiritual life.

Receptivi-TEA

The prophets tried to learn about what the Spirit was showing them, when those things would happen, and what the world would be like at that time. It was shown (to) them that their service was not for themselves but for you, (1 Peter 1:11-12, NCV)
As the prophets of old sought to learn from God, I, too "search intently" (NIV) or as the NASB states, "with careful searches and inquiries" as I pray.....that I (and my church) might be receptive to what God would have us do.
How to serve. Where to serve. Whom to serve?

I sometimes feel like my old rabbit ears on our first portable TV or even our"newer" TV digital converter box. When I have problems and can't get the signal, I have to start moving and repositioning those new fangled "ears." Channel 5 even suggested I might need "help with antenna placement."
That comment says it all. I might need "help"---even help with my spiritual ears. A little fine tuning is needed for clearer receptivity. I need to put my self in a better place in order to "pick up" the offerings.
Got it! Tweaking of "ears" to hear during prayer time will be enhanced with self situated in "prayer chair" placement and Bible open on knees to get BEST reception. Now, maybe signals from God's Spirit can come through "loud and clear."

Receptivi-TEA blended and brewed and served with sensitivi-TEA to others.

How do I know.....?

9/18/13 "How do I know?" is a question one often ask's self about a variety of topics. Personally, I'd like it in sky writing just to be sure----especially in the area of God's will, purpose, etc.
I often use a 3 x "heads up rule" to help me focus on an area----in a "before the fact" situation.
This week, the DAY AFTER my blog post, the Lord used 3 "after the fact" occurrences to give me affirmation for that entry.

Verses for meditation are posted on this blog each Monday. The day after the most recent (9/15/13) meditation posting, 3 God winks were received. My passage choice…..Numbers 6: 24-26 was the RIGHT one for meditation this week.  How do I know?
  1. 1.     Benediction at funeral
  2. 2.    Greeting on a card I received
  3. 3.    Citation on a card I was sending which I didn’t notice until I was sealing the envelope.
#2
  1. How grateful I am to know.

Hurried Forgetfulness

7/6/13 With more than "our normal number" of  upcoming summer trips, excessive planning has been creeping in to my mindset. Forgetfulness has been rampant. But God....showed me a 7/5/10 Allen Bible Church post that I had printed off 3 year ago. Is there a "July" pattern here?
Hurry, Worry and Ho-Humness too often mark the lives of Christians. Notes that followed indicated that, too often, we describe ourselves by how busy, frenzied and time-squeezed we are. It's as if busyness is a badge of honor. Worry means our lives are significant. In truth, as one man said, "When I listen to myself, I'm coming to realize, I'm too much laced with discontent?"
Questions popped out at me:

Despicable Me 2, a family treat

  • Are you worried and hurried?
  • What would God say to you?
  • God has spoken, without stutter, concerning His will for life. Am you listening?
As I pondered these questions, I began to heed those underlying warnings.

Then, I got an offer I couldn't refuse.

I decided not to hurry but to forget all the to-do list items and enjoy the moment.

I went to a "kiddie" movie.

TAKING STOCK....

12/31/11 Taking stock. Isn't that what we do as a year draws to a close? The financial, political and entertainment industries certainly do. Experts in those fields want to know what worked and what didn't, as they plot the ups and downs of our economy, our votes and our selections. Data helps them to plot new courses and declare new resolves for the coming year.

Previous journal entries reminded me that I, too, need to take "spiritual stock." What good does it do to claim a verse for my year without being intentional about making it a reality in my everyday walk. January journal entry for 1/10/11 included my spiritual passage for the year's focus.
14...encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15...always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people. 16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks;.......(I Thessalonians 5:14-18)
Always (adverb) "got me" as did the everything (noun) and everyone (pronoun). You see, I have a tendency to want to "pick and choose" things for which I am thankful (though some progress noted), & those with whom I am patient----just ask my family.
And then there's that adverb. Always. Always certainly indicates real consistency. Am I always seeking good for all (not just some)? Am I always rejoicing? (regardless of circumstances or blizzard road conditions) Am I always praying? (am I inhaling and exhaling praise) Now that I've taken stock, I resolve to do better because.....

......the last part of the verse reminds me that these mandates for living are God's will.

Shoulda-woulda-coulda……..

3/11/10 .....Larry’s favorite saying about my rearview mirror perspective of life. I have a tendency to second-guess every thing I do. I really have a big “if only” problem called disappointment. Ex. I should have bought those silver spoons in Rome---I’ll never have another chance. Sometimes I can backtrack, with Larry’s prodding, but not always. Regrets. Life can be full of them, from chances missed to miscues in relationships.

Today, as I begin “MAC-tracking” (retracing my MAC cancer event from diagnosis to multiple surgeries and healing) of last year, I realize I have no regrets. None. There’s nothing that I “shoulda” done or “woulda” done or “coulda” done differently. Why? It was out of my hands. What mercy, what grace, what relief, what unadulterated joy there is in that!

I’m in Texas meeting with doctors---hopefully for the last time. Should I have opted for two more surgeries, could the clear margins have been a mistake, would I change anything? All done deals. Moot points---not relevant in God’s plan for me. Everything was bathed in prayer even before the original diagnosis. So…..no regrets.

These past 12 months have been a blessing---my meager vocabulary cannot begin to express my heart. This week as I’ve been preparing to return, I’ve felt filled with emotion almost to the point of tears. I felt as if I were going home. I’ve already hugged the little Texans as they headed out the door to school. Later, I’ll visit doctors; I’ll drive by the hospital; I’ll see Mary Flo. So why these deep intense feelings? Claudia Parlow says she and Terry feel it every time they return to Shepherd Center. Her answer, “The feelings come because that’s where you met God face to face.”

As Thomas Purifoy said about his marriage and his time with his wife, Susan even as she suffered and died with cancer, “No Regrets, Mate.” I concur----there are “no regrets” when you’re right smack dab in the middle of God’s will for your life!

Dippin' Dots (Dots, Nancy Rouse’s nickname for me, is dipping back into the “D” word bank

12/3/09
D is for DELIGHT
He is my delight!

“Delight thyself also in the Lord and He will give thee the desires of thy heart.” (Psalm 37:4---Dotsy’s memory version)

Years ago (1978-79) when I was teaching her son Nathan, Carolyn Hughes cross-stitched that verse for me. It was really an answer to prayer because I was struggling trying to memorize scripture and Voilà !” ---a gift of scripture. This visible reminder did the trick.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that the more I delighted in Him, the more He would change the desires of my heart. Now my heart’s desire is for my life to be so aligned with His---that my delights would be in sync with His delights.
