EARS TO HEAR!

Ever had a friend who speaks in italics. Voice inflections control the snippets of thoughts that are important to her. Think "PITHY" in all caps! YOU THINK!.... is what she would say!
UH, HELLO! REALLY?! That is so-o-o you! IMAGINE THAT! Oops that sounds like me! Pull-eese, I feel like I'm getting surrounded by hyperbole.....then I realize I'm the one doing the talking.
There in lies the problem. Too much talking---NOT enough listening! For me, it's also too much interrupting....way too often!
Fearfully, it's as if I don't blurt it out right then, I'll forget it. Maybe God wants me to forget it as a way of learning to be patient, to be considerate and to be silent.
Give ear to what God says. Put down your iPhone and truly listen to Him and others.
Have ears to hear and then respond with words from the heart.

Addendum--Snippets from Lester Holt's 5/20 Commencement Address at Villanova weere shown on tonight. (NBC's Nightly News) Holt's words were validating to me as he too emphasized,"sometime a little less talking might serve us better...searching for the truth, asking smart questions....listening is short-tripped....listening is more than hearing words;...it's the meaning, the perspective, and the experience of others. Learn to listen with your mouth closed...All that said, we do need your voice. We need your voice to speak for knowledge....we need your voice to speak for justice and truth...civility...and know that not everything requires an instant immediate response. Take a chance; Learn to pause; be silent......

"Quotabili-TEA"

Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not reproach her. (Ruth 2:15, NKJV)
Ruth's gleaning was a harvesting---all a part of her plan to obtain food. In Bible Study one often looks for nourishment from God's word in much the same way. Often the truth that sticks is a quip or a pithy grabber that nourishes my memory.

Indulge me in a few snippets of truth taken from my Bible marginalia. Three Bibles in all; NASB, (birthday gift from hubby, 1977) NIV, (Christmas gift from Diane A, 1995) & NKJV. ("Cove" gift from Lo, 11-4-04)

Just my succinct notes that come from others, often not identified, that carry a life message gleaned* from Scripture, & given in user friendly terms, so I clearly "get" the idea!
*Gleaning or extracting information from various sources collected & recorded gradually and bit by bit since 1977 have given me lots of "food for thought."
Pithy with a punch, as I like to say. Messages of wisdom and knowledge with practical applications.
(NASB)
  • There are no atheists in foxholes.
  • Bible is the textbook for relational living. (L. Crabb)
  • Sorry looks back. Worry looks around. Faith looks up. (C. Swindoll)
  • Is it right? (Yes) Should you do it? (Yes) Will you do it? (Probably not) "Probably not" hardens one's heart.
  • When there is sin in our life, God has to work "on us" rather than through us.
  • The "will" can function regardless of the temperature of the heart.
  • We worship our work, work at our play and play at our worship.
(NIV)
  • All want deliverance from hell but few want the deliverance from sin---we clutch the pleasures of it.
  • A little thing is a little thing, but faithfulness in a little thing is a big thing. (Hudson Taylor)
  • Humility is a right estimation of our life (self) toward God and others. (B. Liles)
  • Purpose of prayer is not to change God but to change us.
  • Satan doesn't make you do anything; he just fluffs the pillows.
  • Ether sin will keep you from this book, or this book will keep you from sin. (D.L. Moody?)
(NKJV)
  • Bible is not an answer book---it just leads you to the One who is the Answer.
  • Giving is living the gospel, not just believing the gospel.
  • Growth is the only evidence of life. (Growth is visible.)
  • Hearing is "seeding" for obedience.
  • In fellowship, Jesus is the "fellow" in the ship with you.
  • Prayer is the God-ordained alternative to worry. (C. Swindoll)
No special order for gleanings---just a cuppa quotabili-TEA to sip and share.

"I'm late. I'm late......"

11/2/13 "I'm late. I'm late for a very important date......" said the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. A storybook rabbit who understood that "time is of the essence." Alice chased him thinking that the very important date must be a party.
Lateness seems to be the character trait of many. Excuses vary but usually have a commonality...running out of time.
Well tomorrow all of us get an extra hour in our daylight. Some will sleep through it, some will overwork in it and some will miss the opportunity completely because they forgot about the Day Light Savings time "fall back" instructions.
"Time is the Measure of Life Itself" was the intro Donna Taylor wrote in her monthly newsletter. I paraphrased some valuable "time-life" snippets I gleaned from her:
  • Time is God's gift and should not be wasted. (Ephesians 5:16)
  • Busyness that robs us of time....can rob us of important things left undone because we ran out of time.
  • Twice a year when we adjust our clocks and watches for DST, maybe we should check our inner clock and see if it needs adjusting.
Evaluating our time usage my keep us from being late for important events. I dare not run in to church in the morning saying, "I'm late, I'm late......" because it's important not to give up meeting together...so we can encourage one another. (Hebrews 10:25)

**Fun pictures that just appeared in my email---so
"timely" and adorable that I just had to share them!

Saturday Snippets.....

5/4/13..............posted on Sunday. I know. It goes against my somewhat compulsive nature to post "late" but the alliterative aspect of the title won out.
Simplistic snippets, those pieces of info, often just bits or scraps have been whirring in my head ever since I volunteered to create & teach a "Summer Refreshment" course at church.
simplici-TEA---a guided study to unjumble our lives and clear out our stuffed and cluttered minds, hearts, and souls....practical and spiritual approach to living out 2 Corinthians 11:3, with "the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ."
It will be similar to joining a friend for a "cuppa" as we take our "simplici-TEA together, one "sip" at a time.
Time has come to put said snippets in some kind of order---to turn scraps into morsels, worthy of sharing with others. A daunting task. But  God.....reminded me that this is to be His work. So....I'm back to the THOTS department of organization--Trusting Him On This Subject!

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who gave me strength, because he trusted me and gave me this work of serving him. (1 Timothy 1:12, NCV)
