GOD'S MERCY

Some days are a stay in one's jammies all day kind od day.
Two days ago was such a day for me. Was that a "bad" thing for me to do? I certainly berated myself for each nap I needed.
Even though I was beyond being physically pooped, I certainly wore the guilt robe throughout the day!
But God in his love and mercy has us reading from the Allen Bible Church reading plan each night.
That night, April 30, had us reading from 1 Samuel 16!
When we got to verse 7, I knew I had been exonerated. Staying in one's "PJs" is not a crime. In spiritual terms, I could forgive myself because God does not look at one's outward appearance but at one's heart.
Hallelujah!

DEMONYMS

Wordsmith Wednesday's new word----for me, that is...........
Usually I come across "new" words of interest while reading.
This time it was a category on Jeopardy.
Demon popped out but it was NOT demon......
.....rather demonyms--an ID for a group of people in residence in a certain area/state.....think New Yorker, Kentuckian, Tennessean or Texan as our family does. However, Dallas natives/residents/inhabitants are known as Dallasites---cited in print since 1873. Autocorrect has obviously not been informed of that demonym & insists (with .............) that I have misspelled it!
Not surprisingly, the demonym for all folks who live in Oklahoma is "Sooner," the state nickname. Many state monikers are folksy and seem to follow the state nickname, tho not always  acknowledged by the federal government. Division has ignited fierce debate. Are Indianians or Hoosiers preferred? Michiganians or Michiganadors?
I don't think I got many of the answers right on Jeopardy. I assume only British & other avid soccer fans understood that people who reside in Manchester, UK are dubbed, Mancunians.
Rules are messy according to word scholars and I don't think demonym will become a "trending word" but as for me, it was a fun diversion as I waited for another appointment with Dr. Rowena DeSousa.

JEOPARDY!

Friend Jerrie's gift, a Jeopardy! 2016 Calendar, has become a fun part of "our" (hubby plays too) morning routine. Just like when we know the answers during the TV show, it brings a bit of excitement to the day---not to mention competitive fun! What a thoughtful gift.
In Jeopardy! TV series, there is a risk everytime you "ring" in and there is always "double trouble," a hubby term, when you choose the "daily double" square, and have to decide if your confidence in the category allows you to make it a "true daily double." Risking everything ($$$) you have accumulated so far. Is the risk worth the loss? The final outcome could be on the line!

The answers on the calendar version, as always, are in the form of a question but how easy it is to just turn the page over when you are stumped. And you don't risk loss of anything---unless losing face with your spouse counts.
There written out in large bold print and "all caps" is what you need to know. You can't miss it.
Answer given. Problem solved.

Don't we all wish our life questions were that easy to figure out! Those that really stump us. The "whys" we don't understand. The "what ifs" when we are trying to make the best decision.

For me, there are so many parts of life that I don't have an answer for---but God reminds me, to call unto Him. (Jeremiah 33:3) He is the answer.
I don't risk anything when asking. (James 1:5)

There is no JEOPARDY!-type consequence when asking, (Romans 8:1) just forgiveness and wisdom.
Wisdom freely given by the ONE who is the answer.

I might not know the answer but I know the One who is the answer.

Literati

2/15/11 Literati----Love the sound of that word. Heard it just recently as the correct answer to the “final Jeopardy” question. A hint embedded in the question was the opposing reference to those in pop culture whose opinions are seemingly valued more than those of the well read/learned. That would be the glitterati ----those famed celebrities and social elites on whom we bestow intelligence and legitimacy whether they have a clue or not. How sad that the words of the glitterati speak loudest in our world today.

It’s as if fame and fortune give one the credentials for dogmatically explaining everything from foreign affairs to religion. Don’t get me wrong, we all have a right to our opinions but that’s what they are, “our opinions.” We don’t have to buy into what the glitterati say or their chosen lifestyles of overindulgence just because they make it big at the box office or on the sports circuit. A student told me that she watches the news everyday a 3 p.m. to keep abreast of what’s happening. When I asked her which program, thinking CNN or Fox, she said, “Oh no, I watch “Inside Edition.” They had Lindsay Lohan’s latest court appearance and you should have seen Lady Gaga’s outfit.” ---or lack there of, came to my mind. Oh my. You get the idea.

Impressionable young minds building their ideas on TV feeds. I would like to fill their minds with everlasting truth. I would like for them to consider ideas and lifestyles that are “true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report” (Phil. 4:8) and “think on these things.” I would like their iPad RSS feeds to stream from God’s word.

Of course, that’s just my opinion, what’s yours?
